One great guy, one small gift, one big surprise!

Art Teacher Mark Thering
Even if you never participated as a student in Edgewood High School theatre productions, you’ve likely had a class with art teacher Mark Thering. Or maybe you’re the parent of an alum or current student and appreciate the difference Mark has made in your child’s life by recognizing and nurturing artistic talents, providing guidance in yearbook creation, or helping build self-confidence by delegating responsibility for getting a set finished.

On “Giving Tuesday,” December 1, 2015 we’d like to surprise Mark with a seat in the Sr. Kathleen O’Connell Auditorium, recognizing his unassuming dedication for the past 41 years to the students of Edgewood and his award-winning work on set construction and design. Since 1986, Mark has entered EHS sets into the national ScenoGraphics competition and has brought home 21 awards.

Dedicating an auditorium seat with a commemorative plaque is $1,000, and if enough of us contribute just $10, $20 or more, we can fund this special gift for a terrific man. Please follow this link to the Edgewood High School “Make a Donation” page. Scroll to the bottom and click on the “Donate” button for “specify an amount for another purpose.” If you use Paypal, incude Thering Auditorium seat in the comments box. If you pay by credit card, any gifts received on December 1 will be credited to the purchase of the seat. Any funds over $1,000 will be contributed to ENCORE, the fund that helps support Edgewood’s programs in music, theatre, art and creative writing.

Thank you for helping celebrate the accomplishments and many kindnesses toward students and parents shown by Mark Thering over more than four decades at Edgewood.
Please share this message with friends and family so we can achieve our goal (but don’t tell Mark!).

  1. Mr. Thering was a big inspiration for me when I was in high school. I have to say that he was the only teacher that stands out during my education. I have continued to pursue art throughout my life and am an active artist right now as my full time business.
