Six EHS Alums at UW-Madison Earn Science Fellowships

Six alumni from EHS were awarded fellowships at the UW-Madison Chancellor’s Undergraduate Awards Ceremony on Monday, May 4, 2015.

Five received Hilldale Undergraduate/Faculty Research Fellowships made possible by funds from the Hilldale Foundation and the Wisconsin State Legislature that provide for awards of $3,000 each to undergraduate students and $500-$1,000 to their faculty/staff advisors to work in collaboration on research projects. Considering the thousands of high schools UW-Madison draws from internationally, to have five recipients from Edgewood out of a total of 112 is remarkable! Below are each of the five, his or her major, and the title of the research project.

Patrick Barney ’12 – Microbiology
Generation of Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell Photoreceptors and Applications in Transplantation Therapy

Patrick Carney ’12 – Genetics
(his faculty sponsor is Gregory D Kennedy, MD, PhD, father of one EHS graduate and a current EHS student)

Connor Ford ’12 – Biomedical Engineering
